Poetose's mission is to contribute to the literary landscape of Boston and beyond to make the world a more beautiful home for us all. We believe in spreading the love and creating beautiful things.

Poetose publishes works of poetry, prose, and art, and also sells bookish items. We love work that lives at the intersections of everything. Poetose is a portmanteau combining the words "poetry" and "prose." We are interested in poetry + prose with an emphasis on the toes.

As writer Derek Walcott said, "What I mean is to be barefoot in spirit."  We explore the ground between fields and disciplines, value language and the book as beautiful objects, and celebrate the exploration of our collective toes. Fittingly, the Poetose logo is a toe print.

We do not accept work created with AI. Please also do not submit previously published work (whether shared on social media or self-published). The exception is if you are willing to handwrite the work to create a new form for Poetose to publish. Simultaneous submissions are fine, but let us know if your work is accepted elsewhere.

Poetose claims First Serial Rights (if applicable) for short works published with Poetose Journal, and you retain all rights after initial publication. We only request that you credit Poetose if you publish the work again in the future.

Due to the volume of submissions we are unable to provide individual feedback.

If you would like to stay in touch and receive updates, sign up for our newsletter. We primarily feature interviews with creative folks including writers and artists. We are on Instagram @PoetoseOfficial, Threads, Facebook, X, and TikTok.

Thank you for considering Poetose as a home for your work!

Poetose welcomes submissions of poetry, prose poetry, hybrid work, cartoons, and interviews for publication online. We recommend that you read previously published works on our website before submitting.

Please submit up to five pieces (poems, prose poems, stories, artworks, etc.) in one document. It is informative and helpful if you place your favorite / most fitting pieces first, if applicable.

If you would like to submit handwritten work, consider using one of the two templates on our webpage, to be considered for a handwritten anthology on the art of living which is in the works. However, you are encouraged to submit work without first handwriting it, as this does take time and labor.

Regardless of whether you submit handwritten work, each published piece must eventually be accompanied by imagery of some sort as the published work is linked to along with all other digital publications from this Poetose Journal page.

Poetose is unable to provide payment at this time.

Poetose claims First Serial Rights (if applicable). You retain all rights after initial publication. We only ask that you credit Poetose if you publish the work again elsewhere.

Previously published works are only accepted IF you are willing to handwrite the piece for Poetose.

We've noticed many other literary journals are starting to provide an expedited response for a fee. We're trying it now, as the costs of publishing add up significantly and it truly is a labor of love. All fees go toward author advances and other publishing costs.
